It has been a while, hasn’t it?
Where have you been, mah mawn?!At home, socially distancing. I haven’t caught anything, fortunately, but these past two years hasn’t been gentle with me either, especially since my best friend, who was the biggest influence to my art, tragically passed away on 2019…
What happened to the art?You guys probably have this figured out a long time ago but I’m suffering from an art block and haven’t been able to finish a single piece of a completed work. I had hoped to work on my projects during this pandemic but these anxious times has put a massive dent to my spirits and caused my artistic spark to dwindle. I think more for my family (even though they’re fine) than my own passions.
So are you quitting? The short and simple answer: Hell naaaaw!
My artistic spark may have gotten dim but it’s definitely not snuffed out. I still have that creative drive and I have been doodling and storycrafting for some time. Some of these sketches are ready to be made into complete works. Besides, I owe people commissions that I haven’t finished yet and I would be damned to quit on them now. I just need to reignite my passion once more.
That’s good to hear, brawh. How’s everything else?I won a PS5 from a lottery contest. Got a bundle with the new Ratchet and Clank-game and it has been wonderful through and through. x3 I’m also fully vaccinated and everything seems to be coming back together.
The direction of Omega AgeDuring this artless pandemic, I got a lot of time to think about my most ambitious project, Omega Age, and lately I have questioned my own sense of originality. Most of my characters are one way or other inspired by many things throughout their creation and that’s pretty natural. But sometimes their conception gets too influenced by the inspirations’ source material and may lead the characters losing of what makes them original. Take my character Goldmane, for example. Goldmane is inspired by multiple lion heroes from various pop cultures I’ve seen. But there’s the problem, I feel like I’ve been too influenced by them and made Goldmane too stereotypical. In other words, I made him look too much of a Simba and the other fictional lions after him. Realizing this, I now strive to take a different approach with Goldmane, as well as other characters suffering from the same problem, and really try to make something both satisfying and unique to me and their story without too much influence of the inspirational sources. I apologize to everyone for the possibility of yet another character design revamp but I feel like I need to do this. I also want to try a different profile sheet that is both appealing and informative.
But Bomba stays the same. Out of all my characters, I felt Bomba to be the most original and clever creation I’ve made. I should try and follow the conception’s example of her design.
Also, I need to work out some way to copyright this stuff. Too many art thefts has been going on lately. Maybe I should add a special trademark logo or something?
Final note The biggest reason why I took time to write this journal to you all, is because today’s my birthday. One of my birthday wishes is to let you guys know that I’m still alive and well and so is my creative passion. Thank you for your time and I hope you have a pleasant summer. ^u^
With much manly love,
Krillos
